Aquatic Treadmill — KIN Rehabilitation Center, Lat Phrao 71

What Are Hydrotherapy and an Aquatic Treadmill?

Hydrotherapy uses the therapeutic properties of warm water at 33–36°C, while an Aquatic Treadmill is a temperature-controlled warm-water exercise system installed in a private tank and designed specifically for gait and running training.

Warm-Water Pool Hydrotherapy (KIN Physical Therapy Hospital, Bearing) — Exercise and balance training in a warm-water pool, available in group and individual sessions.
Warm-Water Aquatic Treadmill (KIN Rehab Lat Phrao 71) — Individualized gait or running training in warm water, with adjustable temperature, water level, speed and resistance.
Stroke Golden Period (first 3–6 months) — Hydrotherapy can be an important component of Golden Period rehabilitation and may begin as early as the first week when medically appropriate.
Water Property Rehabilitation Benefit
Buoyancy Supports 50–90% of body weight, reducing pressure on the knees, hips and spine and allowing gait practice with less pain.
Resistance Provides multidirectional resistance to strengthen opposing muscle groups at the same time without adding external weights.
Hydrostatic Pressure Supports circulation, may help reduce swelling and improve oxygen delivery to working muscles.
Warmth (Thermal Effect) Warm water at 33–36°C helps relax muscles, reduce pain and spasticity, and support circulation.

Why Can Hydrotherapy Be Better Than Land-Based Exercise?

Comparison Hydrotherapy / Aquatic Treadmill Land-Based Exercise
Joint Impact Reduced by 50–90% Full weight-bearing impact
Fall Risk Very low because the water provides support Higher, especially for older adults
Starting After Surgery Earlier in some cases (1–2 weeks) Often later (4–6 weeks)
Pain During Training May be reduced by 24–50% Often more painful
Muscle Strengthening High, with multidirectional resistance Moderate, usually in one direction

Frequently Asked Questions — Hydrotherapy & Aquatic Treadmill

Reviewed by the KIN Medical Team

How Are Pool Hydrotherapy and an Aquatic Treadmill Different?
Warm-Water Pool Hydrotherapy (KIN Physical Therapy Hospital, Bearing) involves exercise and balance training in a warm-water pool, either individually or in groups. It is suitable for multidirectional movement training. In contrast, the warm-water Aquatic Treadmill (KIN Rehab Lat Phrao 71) is a private underwater treadmill with adjustable temperature, designed for individualized gait or running training with precise speed and resistance settings.
When Can Stroke Patients Begin Hydrotherapy?
It may begin during the first 3–6 months of the Golden Period after a stroke, once a physician has confirmed that it is safe. Water can reduce joint loading by 60–80%, allowing gait practice before the muscles are ready for full weight bearing.
What Is an Aquatic Treadmill?
It is a temperature-controlled warm-water exercise system installed in a private tank. The buoyancy of water can reduce joint loading by up to 80%, supporting gait training with less pain. It may be suitable forstroke patients people with knee osteoarthritis, older adults and injured athletes. KIN was among the first in Thailand to use this technology for stroke rehabilitation.
Is There Supporting Research?
More than 25 years of international research has examined aquatic exercise. Studies cited by the source include Texas A&M on blood pressure, Utah State on pain reduction over six weeks, Inje University on gait speed in stroke patients, and Cochrane reviews on pain and quality of life.
How Much Does It Cost, and Where Is It Available?
warm-water Aquatic Treadmill at KIN Rehab Lat Phrao 71: first trial 1,000–1,500 THB | 10 sessions 10,000–15,000 THB.
Warm-Water Pool Hydrotherapy at KIN Physical Therapy Hospital, Bearing: first trial 1,500 THB | 5 sessions 8,000 THB | 10 sessions 15,000 THB.
How Long Is Each Session?
Sessions generally last 30–45 minutes, depending on physical condition and goals. A physical therapist assesses each patient and designs an individualized program.
What Makes KIN Hydrotherapy Different?
KIN is the first and only network in Thailand to provide both formats within one integrated system. The medical team can create a continuous rehabilitation plan, beginning with pool hydrotherapy in the earlier phase and progressing to a warm-water Aquatic Treadmill for more precise gait training — View the Launch News →
