“Fulfilled in Heart and Spirit”
Scenes From the Alms-Giving Ceremony on September 15, 2023
at KIN Origin Physical Therapy Hospital
Service users, older adults, registered nurses, nursing assistants, and KIN Origin staff joined together in the morning to offer alms, pay respect to the monks, and make merit.
Making merit and offering alms may support emotional well-being by encouraging calmness, reflection, and a sense of happiness.
Alms Giving is a long-standing Buddhist tradition practised since the time of the Buddha. In the morning, Buddhist monks carry alms bowls while walking through communities to receive food and other offerings. People commonly offer rice, prepared food, or dry goods.
Buddhists regard this tradition as an act of merit. Some also dedicate the merit to deceased relatives and believe that the offering symbolically reaches or benefits those who have passed away. This reflects religious faith and tradition.
