What is Office Syndrome?
Office Syndrome refers to muscle and fascial pain caused by maintaining the same posture repeatedly for long periods, especially prolonged computer work. Common symptoms include pain in the neck, back, shoulders, upper back, arms, and wrists, along with possible numbness, tightness, and fatigue. Without proper care, symptoms may become chronic and affect sleep and mood.
The main causes include poor working posture, an unsuitable desk, chair, or monitor setup, limited movement, and prolonged downward viewing of screens. These factors may contribute to accumulated muscle irritation, headaches, and dry eyes.
Prevention
- Maintain an ergonomic sitting posture with the back upright and the chin in a neutral position.
- Position the monitor at eye level and arrange the keyboard and mouse to support the shoulders and elbows.
- Stand up and change position every 60–120 minutes.
- Stretch regularly and strengthen the core muscles.

Physical Therapy Treatment Plan
Initial Phase
2–3 sessions per week for 2–4 weeks to reduce pain, relieve muscle tightness, and restore flexibility

Maintenance Phase
After symptoms improve, frequency may be reduced to 1–2 sessions per week and later to 1–2 sessions per month to help prevent recurrence

How Often Should Physical Therapy Be Scheduled?
During the initial phase, 2–3 sessions per week may be recommended to control symptoms. This may later be reduced to 1–2 sessions per week for strengthening, followed by 1–2 sessions per month for longer-term maintenance, together with home exercise and posture correction.
