An Interview with P'Ju: A Relative's Experience at KIN Stroke Rehabilitation Center

An Interview with P'Ju: A Relative's Experience at KIN Stroke Rehabilitation Center

Interview with Ms. Ju, a family member of a patient receiving services at KIN Stroke Rehabilitation Center

Hello from KIN Stroke Rehabilitation Center.
We had the opportunity to interview a family member of a patient who had been receiving rehabilitation services at KIN for one month.

Interviewer: Hello. Could you please tell us why you chose to receive care here?
Ms. Ju: My older sister was staying in the hospital, and at that time her condition had not improved enough for us to bring her home. We therefore began looking for a rehabilitation center. We visited many places, but none of them felt right. Some had suitable facilities, but we were not confident about the quality of care. A friend then recommended KIN to us. Her mother had received care here for approximately one or two months. Because the recommendation came from someone whose own parent had stayed here, we felt more confident. We did not feel comfortable leaving my sister in the care of the other places we had visited, so we decided to try KIN.

Interviewer: What goals did you have for her rehabilitation?
Ms. Ju: She had been staying in a government hospital. She still had a feeding tube and had been bedridden for more than a month. She did not have enough strength to stand or walk independently. Our goal was for her to recover enough to eat by herself, have all the tubes removed, and be able to walk with assistance. She also needed physical rehabilitation, and KIN was able to provide everything we were looking for.

Interviewer: Has her condition improved since receiving care here?
Ms. Ju: Yes, she has improved. I especially appreciate the physical rehabilitation provided here. She has practiced walking and eating by mouth. My sister also needs frequent blood tests to monitor her sodium levels, so caring for her at home would not have been very practical, especially while she was still unable to care for herself. We therefore felt that KIN was the right choice. All of her tubes have now been removed. She has enough strength to stand and walk with support. She cannot yet walk entirely on her own, but she can assist with transfers and perform some daily activities independently. We are satisfied with her progress.

Interviewer: What has impressed you most about KIN?
Ms. Ju: When we first came here, KIN had been recommended by friends, so we already had a certain level of confidence, but we could not be completely certain. I therefore came to see the center and stayed with my sister for about a week. After that week, I felt fully confident. From the first day, I was very impressed. All the staff members were friendly and took excellent care of the patients. I never saw anyone lose their temper with a patient. My sister had undergone brain surgery, so her emotions were not always the same as those of other people. She could sometimes become angry or agitated, but I never saw any staff member respond emotionally or treat her harshly. Because I stayed and observed the care myself, I could see how they treated her. After one week, I felt comfortable leaving my sister in their care. This allowed me to return to work and manage other responsibilities without constantly worrying about her. That was one of the things that impressed me most. I was also very impressed with the nursing care. My sister has diabetes insipidus, which requires careful monitoring of fluid intake and output. Her medication cannot simply be given at fixed times, such as 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. The dosage depends on her fluid balance each day. The nurses closely monitored her condition, followed up regularly, and administered medication according to her symptoms and the physician’s instructions. I was very impressed with the staff’s care, the nursing services, and the physical rehabilitation.

Interviewer: Is there anything you would like to recommend to others?
Ms. Ju: I would recommend KIN to anyone looking for a rehabilitation center for a patient or loved one, especially if you are unable to provide care around the clock. You can feel reassured knowing that your loved one is being properly cared for. You can continue with your daily life and work, while still visiting and spending time with them. It allows you to work with greater peace of mind.

Interviewer: Thank you very much for joining us for this interview today. We also sincerely appreciate your trust in allowing our team to care for your sister.
