From the Day Life Changed…
to Beginning Goal-oriented Rehabilitation at KIN
Ular’s Recovery Journey EP.1
From the day life changed...to beginning goal-oriented rehabilitation at KIN
“Hemorrhagic stroke” was the event that changed the life of Ular, aged 67. Once an active older adult, he suddenly faced severe weakness in his left arm, which he could barely move, and only minimal response in his left leg.
At a time when his family was filled with concern and many questions about caring for an older adult after a hemorrhagic stroke, Ular decided to begin rehabilitation at KIN Rehabilitation & Homecare and KIN Origin to move through this period with direction and hope.
An Individualized Rehabilitation Approach
When Ular arrived at KIN, our multidisciplinary team began with a holistic assessment covering physical condition, movement, functional capacity, cognition, and emotional well-being. We believe that “rehabilitation does not begin with muscles; it begins with understanding the whole person.”
Rehabilitation for older adults after a hemorrhagic stroke must place safety first, especially for those at high risk of falling. Even a single fall can lead to fractures, prolonged bed rest, or loss of confidence in movement. A correctly designed plan that matches each person’s abilities is therefore essential.
KIN’s rehabilitation physicians, together with physical therapists, occupational therapists, registered nurses, and caregivers, developed an individualized rehabilitation plan with one shared goal:
“to help Ular walk independently again with stability, safety, and a good quality of life.”
A Gradual Beginning
The early stage of rehabilitation is the most important period. Strength and balance must be established before moving to the next step. The KIN team prioritizes fall prevention during training by assessing movement ability and designing a program suited to the body’s level of readiness.
The main approaches during the initial stage included:
- Stimulating the muscles of the left arm and leg to encourage the nervous system to respond
- Practising basic movements in bed, such as rolling, sitting up, and maintaining balance
- Assessing strength, balance, and the ability to perform daily activities
- Communicating with the family so they understand how to care for an older adult correctly and safely during rehabilitation
Every stage was carried out under the highest safety standards, with the nursing team providing close supervision at all times. This ensured that each exercise was appropriate, not rushed, and designed to reduce the risk of falls and accidents.
The Beginning of a “New Journey”
For Ular, this was not merely treatment; it was the beginning of life again. Every day of training brought new learning, both physically and emotionally.
For the teams at KIN Rehabilitation & Homecare and KIN Origin, every small improvement—whether moving more or maintaining better balance—was a powerful sign of hope. Rehabilitation care for older adults requires knowledge, patience, and encouragement from the family so that they can gradually return to life with confidence and safety.
Ular’s journey has only just begun here in Bangkok, Thailand.
Every step he takes inspires many families to believe that “correct and continuous elderly care can truly restore quality of life after a hemorrhagic stroke.”
Follow the next episode as the rehabilitation path becomes clearer and every source of encouragement begins to blossom into the strength to “move forward.”
