Interview Transcript

Mr Thongchai : Hello. In this video, we are at the Ladprao 71 branch. The Ladprao 71 branch includes a stroke rehabilitation centre and an elderly care centre. Our rehabilitation centres, whether KIN or KinOrigin , specialise in caring for stroke patients and people recovering after hospital discharge. In addition to physicians specialising in neurological conditions, or Neuro Medicine , and rehabilitation medicine physicians, we also have geriatricians who care for patients who still have ongoing medical conditions. Today, I would like to introduce Dr Bew, who is responsible for this area. Hello, Dr Bew. Please introduce yourself to everyone watching this video.

Dr Bew: Hello. I am Dr Chanya Wuthikraikul, a geriatrician.

For patient care at the KIN centre, we provide comprehensive care across all 4 areas.

The first area is physical health. We care for each patient’s illnesses in every dimension. In addition, we also manage

medications. Many patients receive treatment from several hospitals or multiple physicians, which may lead to duplicated medicines or the use of some medicines beyond what is necessary. We therefore review each case individually. Physical rehabilitation is also provided through programmes tailored to each patient. We additionally manage nutrition, adjusting meals to suit each patient’s underlying conditions. For patients receiving tube feeding, nutrition is individually adjusted so they receive sufficient protein and calories. Beyond physical health,

the second area is 2 mental well-being, which is equally important. This includes patients with dementia, emotional or behavioural problems, and another group commonly seen after hospital discharge—patients who become dependent and develop depression. Mental health is assessed, with appropriate care, treatment, and guidance provided.

The 3rd area is rehabilitation of activities of daily living. Many people experience reduced ability to care for themselves after hospital discharge or as they grow older. Our centre provides rehabilitation to help patients regain the ability to perform daily activities independently.

The final area is caring for the patient’s family. We speak with the family and plan together around their goals for the patient’s care. We then work together to help the patient reach those goals. When a patient has recovered sufficiently and is preparing to leave the centre, we provide guidance on self-care at home, care planning, feeding, and physical exercises that family members can continue at home.

Mr Thongchai: The care approach Dr Bew has described shows that rehabilitation involves more than the patient alone. It may include neurological and brain specialists, rehabilitation medicine physicians, and care for both physical and emotional health. Rehabilitation must also consider the family, the environment, and whether the patient can return to normal daily life after going home. Thank you very much, Dr Bew, for sharing this knowledge and explaining how our team works. Dr Bew provides care at the Ratchaphruek 71 branch and also at the Ratchaphruek branch. Every Sunday morning or around noon, Dr Bew visits the Ratchaphruek 71 branch. Thank you very much, Dr Bew, for this video. Thank you and goodbye.
