Vaccines for Seniors / Elderly Care Vaccines

Vaccines for Seniors / Elderly Care Vaccines

Why Should Older Adults Be Vaccinated?

Vaccination remains important throughout life. As people age, immune responses may become less robust, increasing the risk of certain infections and complications. Recommended vaccines depend on age, medical conditions, medications, previous vaccination history, and current national guidance.

Vaccination can help reduce the risk of several preventable diseases. Older adults should discuss which vaccines and schedules are appropriate with a qualified healthcare professional.

Influenza Vaccine

Price 550 THB

What Are the Benefits of Influenza Vaccination?

  • Influenza viruses change over time, so the vaccine is updated regularly.
  • Helps the immune system recognize circulating influenza strains
  • May reduce the risk of complications
  • May reduce the risk of influenza-related death
  • May reduce hospital admissions and treatment costs
  • Helps protect people with chronic medical conditions from severe influenza
  • Helps protect family members and may reduce community transmission
**Egg allergy is not an automatic contraindication. Most people with egg allergy can receive any influenza vaccine appropriate for their age and health status. Tell the healthcare provider about any previous severe reaction to a vaccine.

Pneumococcal Vaccine

Pneumococcal Disease
Pneumococcal disease is caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae. It can affect people of all ages, with higher risks in young children, older adults, and people with certain medical conditions. Infection may cause pneumonia, middle-ear infection, sinusitis, bloodstream infection, or meningitis. Severe invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) includes bacteremia, meningitis, and severe pneumonia.

Treatment usually involves antibiotics selected according to the site and severity of infection. Antibiotic-resistant pneumococcal strains can make treatment more difficult.

15-Valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV15)
This conjugate vaccine protects against 15 pneumococcal serotypes. Use and timing depend on age, risk factors, and previous pneumococcal vaccination. When PCV15 is used in adults, PPSV23 may also be recommended later according to current guidance.
Price 3,500 THB

23-Valent Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine (PPSV23)
This vaccine covers 23 pneumococcal serotypes and helps protect against invasive pneumococcal disease. Eligibility and sequencing depend on age, medical risks, and previous vaccination history.
Price 1,800 THB

Shingles Vaccine

Price 5,900 THB / 1 dose
Price 11,500 THB / 2 doses

Shingles is caused by reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. After chickenpox, the virus remains inactive in nerve tissue and may later reactivate, causing burning pain and a band-like blistering rash along a nerve distribution. The blisters may break, crust, and heal over time.
Shingles is more common in adults aged 50 years and older, and the risk increases with age. It is also more common in people with weakened immune systems, including some people receiving cancer treatment, steroids, or other immunosuppressive therapy.

Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) Vaccine
Price 1,000 THB

Tetanus is caused by a toxin produced by Clostridium tetani bacteria, whose spores commonly
enter the body through cuts or wounds. The illness may cause severe stiffness and muscle spasms,
including lockjaw and difficulty swallowing or eating.
Breathing can become severely impaired, and the disease can be fatal.
Tetanus spores are widely present in the environment.
